Breath Inside Breath – Kabir (Mash-up)
Breath Inside Breath
All know that the drop merges into the ocean,
but few know that the ocean merges
into the drop.
If a mirror ever makes you sad,
you should know that it does not know you.
The river that flows in you also flows in me.
If you want the truth, I’ll tell you the truth.
Listen to the secret sound, the real sound,
which is inside you.
Love does not grow on trees or bought in the market,
but if one wants to be loved
one must first know how to give unconditional love.
You don’t grasp the fact that what is most alive of all
is inside your own house;
and you walk from one holy city to the next with a confused look.
What is God?
He is the breath
inside the breath.
Not Christian or Jew or Muslim, not Hindu,
Buddhist, sufi, or zen. Not any religion
or cultural system. I am not from the East
or the West, not out of the ocean or up
from the ground, not natural or ethereal, not
composed of elements at all. I do not exist,
am not an entity in this world or the next,
did not descend from Adam or Eve or any
origin story. My place is placeless, a trace
of the traceless. Neither body or soul.
I belong to the beloved, have seen the two
worlds as one and that one call to and know,
first, last, outer, inner, only that
breath breathing human being.
A Treasure in Everyone
What you seek is seeking you.
Words are a pretext.
It is the inner bond that draws one person to another,
I know you’re tired but come, this is the way.
Like a sculptor, if necessary,
carve a friend out of stone.
Realize that your inner sight is blind
and try to see a treasure in everyone.
